İsmet İnönü

Actually we read this book in 2022 and also recoreded a podcast about the book late in 2022. Due to several conditions just now we are able to post the brief summary and as well the podcast to the media platforms.

İsmet İnönü is the second president of Modern Turkey and he is called “2nd Man” of the Republic. He was leading Turkey until 60s and he was the second important figure after Atatürk in Turkish history. The book is consisting of  memories of Necdet Uğur who was leading several ministeries in 70s and worked together with İsmet İnönü on his last 10 years. 

The book is thin enough to finish it in couple of hours,  it is nearly 70-80 pages excluding the pictures of the book and mainly divided into 3 chapters.

1- İnönü and 1st World War

2- İnönü and Foreign Politics

3- İnönü and 12th March Military Memorandum

Uğur is mainly sharing his experiences and anectodes about İnönü regarding Foreign Politics and how he managed to keep Turkey out of II WW. For example, one day an Italian reporter asking him that how Turkey has not choosen the place in the politics area between Russia and US. His speech is so wise that he is insisting on Turkey is planning a long term partnership.

İnönü’s era is always critisized and questioned by a wide society and even today there are discussions ongoing with his leadership and how he was acting after Atatürk. Uğur had a short time interval to touch İnönü’s political life and this book at least giving an idea of him shortly based on Uğur’s perspective.

Bu kitabı aslında 2022’nin başlarında okuyup 2022’nin sonlarında podcastini yapmıştık, ev yapımı ve taşınması nedeniyle 2023’ün sonlarına kadar maalesef sarktı. Podcast ve aldığımız notları bir kenara koyup atmak da açıkçası içimizden gelmedi.

Neyse efenim, kitaba kısaca gelirsek, adından da anlaşılacağı üzere , kitap eski Milli Eğitim ve İçişleri Bakanlarından Necdet Uğur‘un İsmet İnönü ile çalıştığı dönemde kaydettiği anılarından oluşuyor. Kitap, sonlardaki fotoğrafları çıkartırsak yaklaşık 70-80 sayfa kadar, 2-3 saate kolaylıkla bitirilebilenecek seviyede.

İnönü’nün özellikle 2.Dünya Savaşı sırasında tutunduğu tavır ve yaklaşım gerçekten kayda değer, bir de dış politikayla ilgili Amerika ve Rusya arasında denge politikası izlemesi geçtiğimiz yıllarda yaşananlara bakınca ders niteliğinde.

İnönü ile ilgili şimdiye kadar birçok kitap yazıldı ve birçok şey söylendi, bunları tabi ki bir süzgeçten geçirmek için farklı kişilerden farklı zamanlardaki anektodları dinlemekte, okumakta fayda var. Bu kitabı da o gözle okumak keyif verici.
